What Do Customers Say About the CampaignMonitor?

capterra.com

Positive reviews:

“I very much like the cost structure. It allows you to send emails for $5 plus a penny per email. That helps us to save $ when sending to some lists only occasionally. There are monthly subscriptions, but we use CM only when it one-off or random.” – Andy G. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“CampaignMonitor is a reliable and perfect solution for proper marketing automation. I like the efficiency of CampaignMonitor.” – Carla M. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Negative reviews:

“While it’s easy to use, that’s because it lacks a lot of functionality for advanced email marketers. The software for segmentation and automation is very clunky.” – Tyson W. ⭐⭐☆☆☆ March 22, 2025

“These guys are happy to continue collecting your monthly subscription from you, However if you try to log in and have forgotten your password – you wont get your email password reset. Once again – you are referred to log in to reach customer support. And round and round you go.” – Alan M. ⭐☆☆☆☆ January 23, 2023

g2.com

Positive reviews:

“One thing I appreciate is how user-friendly it feels compared to some other platforms I’ve tried. The navigation is clean, and setting up automated campaigns doesn’t take forever. It’s also nice that you can segment your audience for more personalized messaging.” – Becky F. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ September 18, 2025

“Love how easy Campaign Monitor was to integrate into our CMS. The dynamic templates are fluid and easy to update. Managing lists and viewing reports is also easy. Great support team as well.” – Verified User in Retail ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ April 3, 2025

Negative reviews:

“I sent my first email Newsletter out through Campaign Monitor and after I sent the email, 4 hours in they decided I wasn’t compliant with their small print. I own a company that offers lead generation services to clients and in their fine print, it says this is not allowed. So make sure you read the 10 pages of the fine print before you sign on with them if you do. They took the email I sent out and broke all the links on it – so whenever someone clicked a link it went to a spam warning. This is NOT OKAY. They have the ability to redirect or break your email links! All I got was an email saying “Our apologies for the inconvenience, as this is something we should have caught upon the initial account review. This does mean, I’m afraid, that we’ll be closing your account.” And no response from there. I would stay away from this company. They are spam. They hijack customer emails without warning.” – Verified User in Marketing and Advertising ⭐☆☆☆☆

“I dislike the overall function of the app vs competitors are the same cost” – Verified User in Photography ⭐☆☆☆☆

gartner.com

Positive reviews:

“With Campaign Monitor, crafting email marketing campaigns and increasing conversion rates is always easy. It is well equipped and helps us send custom marketing emails thus building a deep connection with our prospects/customers. It meets our marketing needs.” – Chargée Marketing ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ July 1, 2025

“They can improve this tool because I couldn’t find a way to tell when another employee is working on an email marketing campaign in the email creator. The main problem that aggravates us the most is that they’ll ask us to enhance their customer service, yet they take their time responding whenever we ask. It has excellent, comprehensive, dynamic templates that make automating it simple. Automation, which is easy to use, has considerably altered our marketing. Since the training is so tiny, everyone on my staff knows how to use it to develop and modify automatic email journeys. The graphical builders are simple to use and understand, and the graphic email creator is excellent for non-programmers.” – PEOPLE BUSINESS PARTNER MANAGER ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Negative reviews:

“Doesn’t seem to be innovating a ton. It lacks features like SMS, advanced automation or behavioral triggers. There are also some limitations with integrating with partners to get all the signals and datapoints needed from website users. It may not scale well for a growing business.” – VP ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ January 7, 2026

getapp.com

Positive reviews:

“As a designer, I wish I could customize the emails a little more and that CM provided more formatting options when creating the email, but I understand it has to meet the need of the masses more than my niche market.” – Stephenie K. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“We have used Campaign Monitor in many different ways, from sending out newsletters to launching multi-stage automated campaigns. Although we have faced challenges along the way, the support team at Campaign Monitor has always responded and resolved any issues that have arisen.” – Edward N. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Negative reviews:

“The interface has been updated with an 8-year delay, so it was outdated for too long time.” – Eugene B. ⭐☆☆☆☆

“The lack of ability to bring our own email provider, and the costs increase significantly at higher send volumes.” – Alex A. ⭐☆☆☆☆

glassdoor.com

Positive reviews:

“The people are absolutely wonderful – they know how to hire skilled and considerate people who just want to do their best. The managers do their best to make sure you have what you need – they are supportive and have the view that if you’re thriving, everyone is winning. They’re not unrealistic at all – if a deadline doesn’t work, it’ll move – they won’t push you to sacrifice your life for the company and encourage a healthy work-life balance. They’re also very supportive when it comes to matters of inclusivity and neurodivergence.” – Senior front end engineer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“Great benefits Fantastic culture Good ability to work and different teams and work up the ladder.” – It operations engineer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Negative reviews:

“Looking back at reviews from years ago you can clearly see how far the company has fallen. CM was heralded as a cultural peer to the likes of Atlassian and Canva in the 2010s but then it evidently stopped growing and competitors put up a good fight. The decline is very clear with ‘silent’ layoffs of people with no redundancy pay. They will make it seem like a performance issue but when multiple people of the same team are let go the same way there is no chance of performance being a factor. Leadership brags about how well the company is doing but the moves being made suggest otherwise. On the ground teams are run well but leadership and executive management clearly don’t have a strategy to survive in this crowded marketplace. The future of Campaign Monitor and Marigold by extension is bleak and I would suggest anyone with an offer to avoid with a ten foot pole. It had potential in the 2010s but I don’t see them surviving the 2020s.” – Software engineer ⭐☆☆☆☆

“Empty promises and lying to employees- I was strung along for months with the promise of a promotion and basically lied to multiple times until they finally told me (after about 5 or 6 months) that they would no longer be promoting from within. No real opportunities to grow- can’t speak for the rest of the organization, but I can say with certainty that you will not grow professionally in the sales org. Management- CRO will constantly crash meetings making employees feel pressured and uncomfortable by criticizing them and making them do impromptu presentations. Managers will not stand up for employees and are fired if they do. I had 4 different managers in my two years here, all either laid off for obscure reasons or left on their own to go to a better company. Pay- does not meet industry averages. I was shocked at what people were offering when I started looking for other jobs. On top of that OTE doesn’t matter because the goals are unattainable and you will not get a whole lot of commission. Daily activity- calls are more important than sales. hitting your 100+ calls a day is brought up in every 1:1 with managers. It is basically a quantity over quality call center.” – Sales ⭐☆☆☆☆

softwareadvice.com

Positive reviews:

“Great functionality for A/B testing- pre designed templates to use, which is great benefits always- well managed user Interface- Marketing automation to drive campaigns.” – Rahul d. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“It is really easy to utilise, easy to setup your email (choosing from a list of high quality templates) select your recipients and send. It allows for ease of tracking and automation of emails, a must in the toolset of any marketeer. I have used this software for over 10 years and it has kept getting better and improving.” – Verified Reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Negative reviews:

“They are very impressive during the sales process to get you on the hook and then dump you during the onboarding process. The account reps at this company are horrendous. Very unprofessional. I was completely turned off by the way I was treated by this company.” – Emily M. ⭐☆☆☆☆

“Having used this app as a designer to create templates for different clients, I think that it really does not compare to Mailchimp. It’s style editor is quite clunky to use and the visual results one can obtain feel fairly limited.” – Chiara M. ⭐⭐☆☆☆

trustpilot.com

Positive reviews:

“We’ve been using Campaign Monitor for years and it continues to impress. Stewart and the entire support team have been outstanding. Ultra-fast communication, thorough, and always quick to resolve any issues we might encounter. The newsletter platform is straightforward, intuitive and reliable. Highly recommended for any organization seeking an email-marketing tool that just works, is simple to use and easy to review your metrics.” – Mister Hankey ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ November 20, 2025

“Wonderful and prompt customer service, some of the best we’ve experienced as a company. Some British companies like BT should take a leaf out of your book… Really highly recommended. Thanks a million Campaign Monitor.” – SIan ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Negative reviews:

“This company once upon a time use to be good – now it’s atrocious. You cannot trust them with anything. I have just tried to log back in to my account to begin a heavy 3 month marketing campaign on a new product. My account no longer exists. The company’s response…”Campaign Monitor accounts are set to a pending closure status after a period of inactivity. We cannot share the criteria that determines an account inactive or the time frame used within the closure process, nor will we notify users of the account in any way beyond the in-app notification mentioned above. They have now deleted ALL my past email campaigns and my customer data (including GDPR opt out requests) gained over the last 9 years. DO NOT TRUST THIS BUINESS AS A MARKETING PARTNER.” – Nick ⭐☆☆☆☆ December 4, 2025

“Incredible poor experience. We have been with them a long time but recently had a tough few months and got behind with payments. We made clear we’d pay asap and have now offered to settle the outstanding invocies but in the mean time they have demanded extra fees, interest and payment in advance for an invoice we do no yet even owe. The funds they now claim are due are nearly three times the outstanding amount and will drive us into bankruptcy. We have offered to pay the late amount immediately, but they are totally inflexible and appear to want to administer a punishment beating not support and understand a long term client. Worse we are just being passed around – our account manager says speak to billing, they say speak to a debt colleaction agency and they refer us back to the client. We cannot get answer to questions and so cannot pay them the funds we now have sitting waiting! Watch out! They will kick you when you are down and there is no one who will take ownership of the client relationship that you can talk to.” – Paul ⭐☆☆☆☆ October 1, 2025

trustradius.com

Positive reviews:

“CampaignMonitor is easy enough to use by small business owners with little to no experience with email marketing, but is designed for marketing agencies managing multiple client accounts. Unlike much more complex marketing software, such as HubSpot, CampaignMonitor by Marigold is incredibly easy to use ‘out of the box’ with very little learning curve or onboarding and setup.” – Jonathan Rockett ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ November 13, 2025

“For general marketing emails and transactional emails it’s very well suited. It’s less well suited to situations where you might want to use it as an RSVP. We did this recently with option to click yes I can attend, no I can’t attend and a lot of the mails were opened by (antispam) bots and as such all links were clicked, making it hard for us to confirm who had and hadn’t responded.” – Jon McQuillan ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Negative reviews:

“Campaign Monitor is awful when you need support. I’ve had an open support call for 3 weeks and they haven’t even started work on it yet!!! Had I known I’d have used another provider and my email campaign would be out by now. No one has contacted me despite many attempts from my side.” – Verified User ⭐☆☆☆☆

“If you have a large list you need to run through and validate, this is a good service. Pretty easy in import and export lists. Not too great for segmenting lists, there are better services that make it easier and more impactful.” – Verified User ⭐⭐☆☆☆

“I enjoy using Campaign Monitor and discover it as a very valuable asset that helps me build effective marketing campaigns from scratch. Overall, I highly suggest Campaign Monitor if you want an email marketing tool that performs well, and gives lots of customization and automation at inexpensive plans.” – A Campaign Monitor User ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“By far the Campaign Monitor platform is fantastic for email marketing. I like everything except for its pre-built templates. Overall, Campaign Monitor is great, you should try this.” – A Campaign Monitor User ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  • API & Integrations

Let’s take a closer look at what CampaignMonitor delivers with each of these features.

Drag-and-Drop Email Builder

Campaign Monitor’s drag-and-drop editor lets you put together polished, brand-consistent emails without touching a line of code. Specific template sections can be locked down, so whoever’s editing only gets access to what they’re supposed to – headers, footers, and legal copy don’t move.

Email Templates Library

The platform ships with a solid collection of professionally designed, mobile-responsive templates covering newsletters, product announcements, and promotional sends. You can also paste in your website URL and Campaign Monitor will pull your brand colors and logo automatically.

Email Automation / Drip Campaigns

Campaign Monitor’s visual journey designer handles trigger-based sequences with a straightforward setup. You set conditions once – a purchase, a form submission, an engagement threshold – and the system runs the follow-up chain from there, including branching paths for different subscriber behaviors.

List Management & Segmentation

Segmentation pulls from the customer data already in your account – purchase activity, engagement history, geography – to build filtered audience groups. Dynamic lists sort themselves out as subscribers come in or drop off – no manual exports to run between sends.

Email Personalization

Beyond first-name tokens, Campaign Monitor lets you swap out full content blocks based on subscriber attributes or behavioral data. Combined with its segmentation layer, this lets you send one campaign that visually adapts to different audience groups.

A/B Testing

The platform’s split-testing covers subject lines, content variations, sender name, and send time. You define the test group size and winning metric – open rate, click rate, or URL visits – and the winning variant gets deployed to the remaining audience automatically.

Transactional Email

Order confirmations, password resets, and similar triggered messages run through the same Campaign Monitor infrastructure as your marketing sends. That means consistent branding and the same deliverability stack – accessible via API or SMTP relay depending on your setup.

SMS Marketing

SMS is available as a native channel for accounts in the US, Canada, Australia, and the UK. It sits inside the Journey Designer alongside email, so you can chain an SMS follow-up to unopened emails or fire a standalone text campaign – credits are billed separately from the base plan.

Sign-Up Forms & Pop-Ups

Campaign Monitor offers three built-in form types: a hosted standalone signup page, an embeddable HTML form for your own site, and a pop-up modal. All three connect directly to your subscriber lists, and form-level conversion tracking shows view counts, submission rates, and conversion percentages.

E-commerce Integrations

Native connectors exist for Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, and a wider catalog of 250+ apps. These pull in purchase history and product data for segmentation and trigger-based sends – abandoned cart flows, post-purchase sequences, and product recommendation blocks all come from this layer.

Ad Audience Sync

Ad audience sync isn’t built into Campaign Monitor natively – it runs through third-party integrations in their directory. AdRoll handles retargeting sync across web and social; Driftrock connects subscriber lists to Facebook Custom Audiences; LeadsBridge covers broader advertising source-to-destination workflows.

Deliverability Tools

Campaign Monitor maintains a 99% average delivery rate backed by dedicated infrastructure and a specialist deliverability team. Senders get in-app guidance for SPF, DKIM, and DMARC setup, prebuilt engagement segments for list hygiene, and access to 1:1 deliverability support on higher-tier plans.

Bounce & Unsubscribe Management

Hard bounces and triple soft-bounces get flagged and suppressed automatically – no manual cleanup needed. Unsubscribes hit your lists in real time, and the analytics dashboard surfaces both bounce and unsubscribe trend lines at the campaign level.

Email Analytics & Reporting

The analytics suite covers opens, clicks, geography, acquisition sources, and engagement trends per campaign. A Marketing Monitor dashboard pulls performance together across campaigns, automations, and transactional sends in one place. Revenue attribution ties specific email clicks back to downstream purchase data.

Multi-User Access

Teams and agencies can assign distinct access levels – view-only, editor, admin – across campaigns, analytics, and account settings. Agency accounts get client sub-accounts with independent branding, separate billing configurations, and a master dashboard for switching between client workspaces.

GDPR Compliance Tools

Campaign Monitor provides consent capture at the form level, confirmed opt-in support, stored proof of subscription, and tools to process data subject requests. The platform sits under Marigold’s enterprise compliance infrastructure, which covers CCPA requirements alongside GDPR.

API & Integrations

Campaign Monitor’s REST API covers subscriber management, campaign triggering, list operations, and reporting pulls. Out of the box, 250+ pre-built integrations span CRM, e-commerce, CMS, and data sync – Salesforce holds the top-rated ESP integration slot on the AppExchange.

Campaign Monitor: Email Newsletter Platform Review

    • Email Newsletter Platform Expert Score: 3.7 – Trusted Choice

    Do We Recommend Campaign Monitor?

Campaign Monitor is a trusted choice for balancing email newsletter capability and reliability. Campaign Monitor features 8 email newsletter-related functions and manages to score average ratings of 4.3 on most review websites, reflecting its ability to meet customer demand. Campaign Monitor is a great option for small and medium businesses or businesses looking for reliable email newsletter software without the need for an exhaustive set of features.

Related: How We Classify Email Newsletter Platform.

Feature Highlights: What Stands Out and What’s Missing

Here’s a look at what Campaign Monitor actually delivers – and where it falls short.

    • Email Automation
    • Subscriber Management
    • Segmentation
    • Custom Domain Support
    • RSS-to-Email
    • Analytics & Reporting
    • API & Integrations

Let’s take a closer look at what Campaign Monitor delivers with each of these features.

    Newsletter Editor / Builder

The drag-and-drop builder lets you assemble branded campaigns without touching code. Pick from the template library or paste your site URL to auto-import brand colors and logo. Individual template sections can be locked, so team members only edit what they’re meant to.

    Email Automation

Campaign Monitor’s visual journey designer handles welcome flows, re-engagement nudges, and post-purchase sequences. Trigger logic runs off opens, clicks, date-based rules, and custom subscriber actions – keeping sends relevant without manual input each time.

    Subscriber Management

List tools handle imports, custom fields, signup form setup, and bounce processing. Per-list double opt-in is available, and whatever you store in custom fields flows straight into personalization logic and segment conditions from there.

    Segmentation

Segments pull from subscriber attributes, behavioral data, and CRM sources connected via integrations. The Segment Mapper (a more recent addition) maps out audience overlap visually, while segments themselves stay current automatically as contact data shifts.

    Custom Domain Support

Domain authentication is handled through DKIM, SPF, and DMARC records, which you add at your registrar and verify inside Account Settings. Authenticated sending reduces spam placement risk and satisfies the stricter deliverability requirements rolled out by Gmail and Yahoo in 2024.

    RSS-to-Email

RSS integration works via a custom HTML template tag – datarepeater type=”rss” – that pulls feed items into the email layout. Send frequency can be set to daily, weekly, or monthly, and Campaign Monitor skips sends automatically when no new content has been published.

    Analytics & Reporting

The analytics dashboard covers opens, clicks, and link performance at the campaign level, with geographic and acquisition data layered in. A separate Marketing Monitor view rolls up program-wide trends across sends – handy when you need a broader picture of list performance over time.

    API & Integrations

The v3.3 RESTful API takes both OAuth 2.0 and API key auth, with endpoints across campaigns, subscribers, lists, segments, journeys, and transactional messages. Language wrappers exist for Ruby, Python, PHP, Java, and .NET, and webhook support handles event-driven workflows on the integration side.
